On Thursday, Transition enjoyed a fantastic trip to Chatham Docks. The day began with a session aboard the HMS Gannet, where the children met Pirate Tracey. She put them through their paces as they trained to become part of her crew. The children learned all about the life on board a pirate ship, how pirates would fight, and they even joined in with singing a pirate song.
Next, the class discovered how the famous HMS Victory was built. They explored the fascinating history of shipbuilding and even visited the mould loft, where ships were designed and planned.
After lunch, the children took part in a hands-on rope making activity, where they had the opportunity to learn about traditional rope making techniques and create our own rope.
To finish the day, the class visited HMS Ocelot, a Royal Navy submarine that amazed everyone. The children couldn’t believe that 70 men would live under the water inside the submarine for up to 3 months at a time.
The children were so interested in everything they saw and experienced. It was a brilliant trip, full of hands on activities and was a memorable day for everyone.
