Lower One is led by Miss. S. Dow and Miss. L. Meadows.

In Lower One, we build upon the strong foundations the children have gained during their time in the EYFS and Infants. We promote a positive approach to every aspect of a child’s development both academically and socially.  We focus on developing the children’s skills of communication, independence, questioning, collaboration, leadership and having a positive mindset and approach to all aspects of the curriculum and school life.  Pupils continue to have a broad and varied curriculum and they are taught mainly in their classroom setting. For Languages, Music, P.E and ICT Lower One are taught by subject specialists.

Every year the children are able to enhance their learning and skills by participating in competitions, themed weeks and House events such as the inter-house cross country event, STEAM week, art and mathematical competitions. The House system ensures the children feel part of a community and encompasses our family values. In addition, we provide children with memorable experiences outside the classroom and offsite trips, encouraging and allowing the children to discover new interests and form new friendships. Lower One have been given the opportunity to go to the theatre, contribute to a Stone Age workshop, participate in different activities at Stubbers Outdoor Adventure Park, develop their knowledge and understanding about plants at Hyde Hall and visit Colchester Zoo.
