Attendance

Good attendance at primary school helps children build strong social skills, make better academic progress, and helps to keep daily classroom routines stress-free. It is important that our children begin their school day in a calm and prepared manner as this ensures they are ready to learn and most importantly, happy to do so. There are several facets to why good attendance is important. Regular attendance links directly to higher achievement in reading, writing, and math, as consistency is key to the children’s success. Social growth is of paramount importance also with friendships at the forefront of children’s school day. Good attendance helps to support confidence, communication and peer relationships. We know that our children are still young but good attendance forms good habits for the future with good punctuality, routine and attendance setting a positive foundation for secondary school.

What can adults do to support their children?

It is important for parents/caregivers to establish steadfast routines for students such as consistent bedtimes, morning schedules and organising school bags, packed lunches and uniforms the night before so that children arrive rested, organised and on time. Booking term time holidays is incredibly disruptive to children and their education. As a school we do discourage any holidays being taken during term time for this reason alone. Any non-urgent appointments during school time are also discouraged as the children miss important lessons that can lead to inconsistencies and gaps in their learning. Please always ensure that contact is made with the school office on the first day of any unexpected absence. The contact email address is office@ursulineprepwarley.co.uk.
