On Wednesday afternoon Reception class had a special visit from a beekeeper, who happened to be the Grandad of one of our children. Bee Keeper Jeff and one of our parents came to see us in the forest area of the school – St. Angela’s Garden – where the children listened intently to a story and then were treated to a very informative talk and demonstration from beekeeper Jeff about the life cycle of a bee, the roles of the various bees, the parts of a hive and then finally tried on a beekeeper’s hat. Some super questions were raised by the children and lots of new vocabulary was learnt, to support our topic work in minibeasts. Afterwards the children ate some honey which the bees had produced in beekeeper Jeff’s hive – delicious!
