On Wednesday 7th May, Lower One had an exciting day at Colchester Zoo. This visit supported their science topic on Plants and Living Things and their English work on information texts. After a short journey, the children eagerly set off in small groups to explore the zoo.

Throughout the day, they discovered different animal habitats, picked up fascinating facts, and learned about the endangered status of many species. A particularly exciting moment was seeing real animal bones — including a crocodile skull!

One of the highlights was the ‘Out of Africa’ section, where the children saw giraffes, ostriches, elephants, antelopes, and rhinos up close. The adventure continued with a memorable train ride through the park, spotting wolves and flamingos, and even stepping inside a lemur enclosure.

It was a wonderful educational day full of laughter. and the children returned with plenty of stories and special memories made with their classmates.
