On Tuesday, the boys from Lower Two and Upper Two travelled to The Len Forge Centre in Southend with Mr. Taylor and Mr. Wilson to take part in the ISA 5-a-side Regional Football Tournament. We were delighted that the boys were able to play at all, as the original venue, Alleyn Court, were unable to host the event due to waterlogged pitches.

14 teams from various schools in the area took part and the competition was formidable at times. We came top of Group A in the knockout rounds and played against the runners-up of Group B in the semi-final which we won with an impressive 6-0 score.

We met Alleyn Court in the final and knew it would be an arduous game to say the least. To say it was nail-biting is an understatement and as the match progressed it become even more so. The final score after extra time was 1-1. As the players approached the penalty spot to take their shots, the atmosphere was electric, even more so when the players from each team scored! The score now was 6-6 and it was the Goalkeepers turn to step forward and shoot! Alleyn Court’s goalkeeper placed the ball on the spot to take his turn. How we erupted when our goalkeeper, Dreydon saved it! However, the game was not yet over, still a draw at 6-6 it was Dreydon’s turn to step up and take aim. Determined as he eyed the goalmouth, he took aim and watched the ball as it whistled past their goalkeeper’s ear!

Congratulations to our boys who all played with determination and are now very deserved ISA Regional Champions and go through to the ISA National 5-a-side Football Finals that is taking place at English Football Association’s national football centre, St. George’s Park on 8th March.
