On Friday 27th February 2026, our netball team travelled to the regional tournament held at New Hall School. The girls performed exceptionally well throughout the day, demonstrating excellent teamwork, determination and resilience. After winning their pool matches, they progressed confidently to the semi-finals. A strong and composed performance secured their place in the final against Copthill School. We took a boys and girls team across to Brentwood School for the District Swimming Gala on Wednesday 25th February. The Children had a wonderful time and swam exceptionally well. The boys and girl’s teams managing to finish in first place and were crowned small schools district champions.

On Tuesday 23rd February, we held our annual Pancake races. The children had a great time racing in the sunshine! Who would have thought it. The final placings between the houses being St. David’s 1st, St Andrew’s 2nd, St. Patrick’s 3rd and St. George’s 4th.

E-Safety week kicked off with a whole school assembly where the children at UPS were treated to an unseen poster of Bluey’s latest film, which was the next instalment of the Star Wars franchise, the new Iron Man 5 film with cameo appearances from the DC universe and our one and only Mrs. Wilson showing off her snowboarding skills and her gold medal achieved in Beijing at the Winter Olympics in 2022. Kindergarten worked hard this half term as they designed and built superhero vehicles. Each child thought carefully about the joining techniques they would use and the tools they needed to construct their vehicle. There was lots of discussion, sharing ideas and fabulous praise of each other’s work. The end results were fabulous!

Thursday 5th February, we took 12 girls to the national dance finals after getting through the semi-finals of over 120 applicants. We successfully achieved the performance award obtaining 3rd position.

On Saturday 31st January, six children from Lower One, Upper One and Lower Two were invited to take part in Brentwood School’s first art exhibition. Congratulations to Isabella, Henry, Annie, Freya, Jessica, Maya and Oscar for being shortlisted to display their incredible work. Their pieces, which were all based on the environment and how to help our planet, were amazing with some very imaginative ideas. On Friday 30th January, the U11s mixed tag rugby team took part in the District Rugby Tournament, held at Brentwood Town Football Club. All of the children had a fantastic time and were a real credit to the school. The team performed brilliantly, winning all of their matches and securing a place in the County Finals. These will be held at Southend Rugby Club on Wednesday 4th February.

Last Thursday, we were pleased to welcome Cannon John back to our school to celebrate mass in honour of the founder of the Ursuline Order, St. Angela. Upper One made an important contribution to the liturgy with their readings and prayers. They worked hard in their preparations by learning about the life of St. Angela and her vision for education. Cannon John talked to the children about St Angela’s vocation and her bravery in setting up the Ursuline Order and consequent school for girls, which was very interesting and inspiring.

Upper One have been learning about the Artemis II Launch, taking place in February. Four astronauts will fly around the Moon and back on Artemis II, the first crewed flight under NASA's Artemis campaign. The launch window begins on the 6th February. Upper One have signed up to have our class name onboard, during the mission. Everyone is excited to have their own ticket, as a memento.
