The children braved the cold and windy airfield of Duxford to learn about the History of Flight as part of their History topic. They went to British Airspace and explored Concorde, walked through the Comet and found out about passenger planes. We saw a piece of cloth which was taken from the Wright flier and sequenced the ages of different planes. They also went to the American Hanger and found out about planes such as the B52 Bomber and the Blackbird spy plane. Lower One visited The Ragged School Museum on Tuesday as part of their history work on The Victorians. They experienced what it would have been like to be living in poor London and attending the first free school for ‘ragged’ children. They were shown some of the punishments such as the back straightener and the finger stokes, as well as practicing their arithmetic, poems, money, alphabet and vocal drills. In the afternoon, they then went into a ‘Victorian home’ experience where they got to look at everyday items such as water bottles, mangles, dollies (the Victorian washing machine), irons, hairbrushes and lots more. We had no less than three teams from our school participating in the District Netball tournament, hosted by us on Wednesday 4th March 2026 . It was lovely to welcome 12 schools from the surrounding areas to participate. All of the girls were fantastic, working hard for their schools and team mates alike. Our three teams were exceptional with one placing 3rd overall and another team winning the whole tournament. On Tuesday 3rd March the U9’s mixed tag rugby team took part in a District Rugby Tournament. The event was held at Old Brentwood’s Club with all the children having a great time and being a huge credit to the school. The team did incredibly well manging to win all their matches and are now District Champions.

On Saturday 28th February, children who came through the regional round, participated in the National Cross Country Final, which were held in Himley Hall Park, Dudley, Birmingham. All of the children performed exceptionally well, competing against very strong opponents. Each of them should feel immensely proud of the determination and hard work they demonstrated throughout this cross country season. Reaching the national competition is a significant achievement and all the children gave a truly tremendous effort on the day. Their attitude has been outstanding and they were a real credit, not only to themselves but also to our school. [...]

On Friday 27th February 2026, our netball team travelled to the regional tournament held at New Hall School. The girls performed exceptionally well throughout the day, demonstrating excellent teamwork, determination and resilience. After winning their pool matches, they progressed confidently to the semi-finals. A strong and composed performance secured their place in the final against Copthill School. The final was a closely contested and exciting match. Despite a tremendous effort from the team, they narrowly missed out on first place, losing by just one goal. We took a boys and girls team across to Brentwood School for the District Swimming Gala on Wednesday 25th February. The Children had a wonderful time and swam exceptionally well. The boys and girl’s teams managing to finish in first place and were crowned small schools district champions.

On Tuesday 23rd February, we held our annual Pancake races. The children had a great time racing in the sunshine! Who would have thought it. The final placings between the houses being St. David’s 1st, St Andrew’s 2nd, St. Patrick’s 3rd and St. George’s 4th.

E-Safety week kicked off with a whole school assembly where the children at UPS were treated to an unseen poster of Bluey’s latest film, which was the next instalment of the Star Wars franchise, the new Iron Man 5 film with cameo appearances from the DC universe and our one and only Mrs. Wilson showing off her snowboarding skills and her gold medal achieved in Beijing at the Winter Olympics in 2022. Kindergarten worked hard this half term as they designed and built superhero vehicles. Each child thought carefully about the joining techniques they would use and the tools they needed to construct their vehicle. There was lots of discussion, sharing ideas and fabulous praise of each other’s work. The end results were fabulous!
