Reception Bee Visit

2025-06-09T11:00:42+01:00

On Wednesday afternoon Reception class had a special visit from a beekeeper, who happened to be the Grandad of one of our children. Bee Keeper Jeff and one of our parents came to see us in the forest area of the school - St. Angela’s Garden - where the children listened intently to a story and then were treated to a very informative talk and demonstration from beekeeper Jeff about the life cycle of a bee, the roles of the various bees, the parts of a hive and then finally tried on a beekeeper’s hat. Some super questions were raised [...]

Transition had a fantastic day at Chatham Dockyard as we explored many ships and exhibits aspart of our History work on The History of Ships. We went back in time to find out how they built ships in Nelson’s time through a holographic experience which brought everything alive- did you know that it took 3500 trees to build one wooden warship? Next we went to the Ropery which makes ropes for ships and for the film industry including all the ropes for the film Paddington in Peru! The children learnt how to make rope and then met a Pirate who [...]

On Friday 9th May, Pre-Reception, Reception and Kindergarten classes were treated to a wonderful visit of discovery from Zoolab, who provided a wonderful selection of fantastic beasts for your children to examine, investigate, handle and learn how to care for. Our mini zoologists posed some super enquiring questions of Okan, the Zoolab ranger, and learnt plenty of fascinating facts and new vocabulary to support their topic of minibeasts.

2025-06-09T08:28:37+01:00

Before our May Procession service today we took time to celebrate the news that a new pope has been chosen and Mrs Macdonald led the school in prayer for Pope Leo XIV, that he will lead God’s people with wisdom and humility. Mrs Price and members of Intermediate led our special liturgy in honour of our Blessed Mother Mary in which the children were reminded of her perseverance, care and joyfulness and her bravery in saying yes when God asked her to be the mother of Jesus. During the week the children have all been busy preparing paper flowers on [...]

2025-06-09T08:25:50+01:00

On Thursday, to celebrate VE Day, the children and staff came to school dressed in red, white, and blue to mark the occasion. We shared a special lunch together, that was beautifully decorated, creating a lovely sense of community and remembrance. During the lunch, the children observed a two minute silence, sang songs, enjoyed music from the era, and proudly waved their flags to honour this important moment in history.

Lower One – Colchester Zoo

2025-06-09T08:19:24+01:00

On Wednesday 7th May, Lower One had an exciting day at Colchester Zoo. This visit supported their science topic on Plants and Living Things and their English work on information texts. After a short journey, the children eagerly set off in small groups to explore the zoo. Throughout the day, they discovered different animal habitats, picked up fascinating facts, and learned about the endangered status of many species. A particularly exciting moment was seeing real animal bones — including a crocodile skull! One of the highlights was the ‘Out of Africa’ section, where the children saw giraffes, ostriches, elephants, antelopes, [...]

Lower One and Upper One had a fantastic afternoon at the Odeon in Chelmsford where they took part in a new Creative Writing project in association with Creative Learning World on Tuesday 29th April. The programme included a fun 30 minute Creative Writing workshop which reinforced story planning skills and gave the children some great tips for choosing and describing characters and using onomatopoeia, followed by a showing of the new Warner Bros. film ‘A MINECRAFT MOVIE’. The children thoroughly enjoyed both activities, and were particularly enthusiastic when joining in with ‘Steve’s Lava Chicken’ song! The children will be continuing [...]
