Netball V St. Martin's School

The Year 5 and Year 6 netball teams played a friendly match against the Year 7 B and C teams at St. Martin's in order to compete against some really stiff opposition.  During the first half of each game the Ursuline were winning!  However, in the second half the Year 7 St. Martin's teams changed their tactics, using their height and experience to their advantage.  Final scores:  Year 6 drew 8-8.  Year 5 lost 11 - 5.  The girls played some excellent netball against older and taller opponents.

Football 2012

The Year 5 Boys travelled to Chelmsford to play a friendly match against Widford Lodge, the first time the schools have competed against each other.  It was a very close fought match with the lead changing several times.  Widford Lodge won eventually 5 - 4.  Congratulations to all of the 9 boys is Year 5 that played for a valiant effort.

Alleyn Court Relay Cross Country 2011

On Friday the 9th December we travelled to Southend to Alleyn Court School for a Cross Country Relay Event.  There were four other schools in attendance.  Ursuline entered two teams in the boy's race and two teams in the girl's race.  We also took along three reserves for each team, which was made up of a Year 4, 5 and 6 member, just in case!  The event organiser kindly allowed our reserves to to run as well.  Final placements for the girl's teams were 4th, 9th and 11th and for the boy's teams 2nd, 7th and 9th. Well done to everybody who ran.

New Hall Netball 2011

On Friday 2nd December, girls from Upper 2 went to The New Hall Netball tournament. Our school was placed in the B pool together with Alleyn Court / St Cedd’s / Elm Green / Maldon Court / FKS. We won every match: 11/1; 10 /1; 8 / 3; 8 / 0; 3 / 2 which took us to the semi-finals to meet Widford Lodge. This game was extremely exciting as each goal scored by both teams kept the score level. However, we eventually found the determination to score two goals and win 5 – 3 to get through to the final! In the final we were up against Brentwood School who were a very strong opposition. Unfortunately, we missed 4 crucial goals under pressure and ended up losing 6 -1. All the girls played exceptionally well and were extremely motivated. So well done for coming runners up out of 14 schools and walking away with a medal and heads held high!

ISA National Swimming Gala 2011

On Saturday the 19th of November swimmers from the Ursuline Prep School made the journey up the M1 to Coventry for the ISA National Swimming Gala. The Children all enjoyed the experience especially having the opportunity of swimming in a 50m International pool!

Amelia Moule (Upper 1) came 2nd in her Breast stroke race.
Christopher Bebbington (Upper 1) came 7th in the Year 4 Freestyle race and helped the Freestyle relay team to finish in 5thposition.
Mia Rose-Davis (Lower 2) helped her Year group in the Freestyle relay race to 7th overall.

Netball and Football November 2011

Netball

Bancroft visited the Ursuline for some friendly netball match play.  Both the U11 and the U10 girls competed and both teams were very evenly matched.  Each quarter saw the teams drawn or a single goal up or down. At the final whistle both teams lost by one goal!  The Ull final score was 9 - 10 and the U10 7  - 8.

Football

The Boys played a further match in the Small School's League against Warley Primary School on the 29th November.  It was evident that they had learnt and improved from their recent matches.  They ended up with a convincing 2 - 0 victory.

Ursuline played St. Mary's in the second round of the Brentwood District Cup. They put in a determined display but were defeated 3 - 0.

On Wednesday 16th  U2/L2 boys played their second game in the same Brentwood Small School's League against Woodlands Hutton.  It was an exciting end to end game with both teams hitting the posts on a few occasions but unfortunately for Ursuline only one of our attempts managed to end up in the back of the net.  The eventual score was 2 - 1 to the visiting team.

The boys football team played in the first match of the season in the Brentwood Small School's League.  The match was against West Horndon.  The team showed great determination throughout the game and came away with a well deserved draw.

Forest Netball Tournament Winners 2011

It was the first time that the Ursuline had taken part in a mixed Netball Tournament.  The boys complimented the team and make a significant contribution to the games.  The team won every game except against the home team Bancroft, which they drew.  As all the final scores were calculated by the judges it was a very tense time as Bancroft had won all their matches too!  When the officals finally read out the placement the Ursuline discovered that they had won by a single goal on count back.  Both the boys and girls were delighted to take home the winners medals and shield.

Football and Netball Update October 2011

On Tuesday 11th October the Under 11 and under 10 netball teams played away at Brentwood Prep. The Upper 2s had a very hard game but sadly lost 15 – 6. However, the under 10 team played superbly and won 9 – 6. Well done to all the girls that were selected to play.

The girls from Upper Two played in a High 5 netball match on Wednesday 4th October against Mountnessing Primary School and won 23 -1 ! This is the first time the team played High 5 netball as the rules are different to seven a side netball and players have to follow a rotation system where they play all different positions. Therefore, our shooters were playing in defence and in the centre circle which was very alien to them. The defenders and wing players had to shoot which was quite daunting for some but surprisingly all the girls played extremely well and the results reflects the high standard of netball we have at The Ursuline. Well done to all.

On Tuesday 11th October the boys played a friendly football match against Mountnessing. The game proved to be action packed, with us hitting the cross bar and upright. Unfortunately we were not quite able to equalise and finally lost the game 2-1.

The boys Football Team played the first round of the Brentwood Cup Competition on Wednesday 4th October against Hutton All Saints Primary School. They created lots of opportunities and were rewarded with three goals being scored. They defended well and did not concede any goals, therefore the final score was a 3 – 0 victory. The team are growing in confidence and are looking forward to the next round which will be played at home against St. Mary’s Primary School.

Chigwell Netball Tournament 2011

On Saturday 10th September the U2 Netball Team, assisted by 1 pupil from L2 competed in the first Tournament of the season at Chigwell School.  Each match lasted for 8 minutes one way.  5 points were awarded for a win, 3 for a draw and 1 point for a loss. The team stormed through the group stage winning against East Court 12 - 0, St. Cedds 6 - 2 and Fairlop 7 - 0.  A great start.  In the second round the competition became tougher as they met the teams that had also been highly successful in the group stage. The results were as follows.

Bancroft B      Won    9 - 2
Chigwell A      Won    6 - 4
Forest A         Won    4 - 1
Bancroft A      Drew  4 - 4
Brentwood A   Loss   1 - 4

Overall the girls displayed fantastic netball skills at all times and worked extremely well as a team.  Their spirits were always positive and enthusiastic even through the tough matches.  They are looking forward to the rest of the season and hopefully they will remember Miss Peacham's motto, 'PASS' - Power - Accuracy -Speed = Success!!
