School Objectives
Our principal aim is to provide the children with a sound Catholic, moral, social and academic education in a disciplined environment. We realise that the children learn most effectively when they are happy and well-motivated.
In order to achieve this, the school creates a happy and caring atmosphere founded on traditional values and fair discipline. We seek to establish the conditions that will allow pupils to achieve their full potential in all areas of school life. The children are also prepared, where appropriate, for scholarship examinations, Common Entrance Examinations and entry to other schools.
The school gives children the necessary competence and self-confidence to broaden and develop their individual skills and interests, both inside and outside the school environment. It also seeks to instil in pupils a sense of pride in self, school and community, to encourage concern for others, especially with the older pupils demonstrating care for the younger children. High standards in dress, speech, work and behaviour are actively promoted.
The progress of each pupil, both academic and personal, is monitored very closely. This assessment of a child’s strengths and developmental needs is made formally and informally on a regular basis. This allows the child’s teacher to develop a clear picture of the areas in which he/she is meeting with success and those in which there are still issues to be addressed. The reading age of each child is tested termly and a summary of progress in the different areas of the curriculum is produced. Parents’ Evenings are held regularly to provide an opportunity for parents and teachers to discuss the contents of these reports and the general development and welfare of the pupil.
Above all, the Ursuline Preparatory School strives for excellence in all aspects of school life.
