The children begin learning French in Kindergarten with the aim of encouraging a positive attitude to foreign language learning. It is also aimed at helping pupils to gain sympathetic insights into the culture of the countries where the language is spoken.
Topics include colours, numbers, days of the week, months, introducing oneself, courtesy phrases, short conversations, food, family and French customs and traditions throughout the year including Christmas, Epiphany and Easter.
The junior school children learn Spanish from the age of seven. Spanish lessons incorporate lots of games and activities so that there is an interactive and fun aspect, whilst learning about the Spanish language and Spanish/Latin cultures. The lesson incorporate singing as part of the the student's acquisition of new vocabulary and phrases. In addition the children are introduced to basic grammatical concepts and words and phrases for reading and writing.
