Geography
The aim of geography teaching here at the Ursuline Preparatory school is to develop an understanding of places and environments. Through their work in geography, children learn to compare their local area to others in the United Kingdom and the rest of the world. They learn to draw and interpret maps and to develop the skills of research, investigation, analysis and problem solving. Through their growing knowledge and understanding of human geography, children gain an appreciation of life in other cultures. The geography teaching motivates children to becoming interested in and inspired by the physical world around them.
The aims of geography are:
- To inspire children to become interested in the world around them;
- To enable children to gain knowledge and understanding of other countries and cultures and, in doing so, teach a respect of what it means to be a positive citizen in a multi-cultural country;
- To allow children to learn graphic skills, including how to use, draw and interpret maps.
